The labour dispute between German trade union verdi and the Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) remains unresolved after disagreements reported last month.

As a result, the union is calling a further warning strike at German seaports.

According to current information, the strike is due to begin today, 02 September 2026, with the start of the late shift at approximately 22:00 local time, and it is expected to continue for 48 hours.

During this period, container terminals are expected to suspend operational activities. Container deliveries and pick-ups will not be possible while the strike is in effect.

Transhipment operations at the terminals are also expected to stop completely, with delays anticipated in the handling of seaborne vessels.

The latest industrial action follows earlier indications of growing tensions in the negotiations. Employees rejected the most recent employer offer, leading to concerns that further warning strikes could take place at German North Sea ports, including Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven.

The disruption may result in delays, cancellations and handling interruptions at port terminals. These developments come at a time when German ports and transport capacities are already heavily utilised, while terminal utilisation remains high.
