Following heavy rainfall last week, Thai local media reports that authorities have expanded their flood disaster declaration to cover all districts in the city of Bangkok.

Rainfall, which started and continued since Wednesday, 23 September, caused widespread flooding across the Thai capital after it intensified within the last 48 hours.

Roads and vehicles have been submerged, resulting in severe congestion and extended journey times across the city.

Particularly affected are the eastern districts of Lat Krabang, Prawet and Bang Kapi, where widespread flooding has followed exceptionally heavy rainfall of approximately 300 mm within 48 hours last Thursday and Friday.

Floodwaters have reached around 60 cm in some areas, inundating residential districts and affecting transport networks throughout Bangkok and surrounding locations.

Kuehne+Nagel reports that disruption is impacting road access, container movements and rail connectivity between ICD Lat Krabang and Laem Chabang Port. Longer pickup, delivery, gate-in and container-return times are expected as a result of the flooding.

Authorities have also warned that further thunderstorms could lead to additional disruption in the affected areas.
