On Wednesday, 3 June, Portugal is set to face a nationwide general strike called by two major unions.
The General Confederation of Portuguese Workers - Intersindical Nacional (CGTP) confirmed joining the strike, while the participation of the General Workers' Union (UGT) is still undecided and linked to the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
The industrial action is directed against the Government’s labour reform package. Unions argue the proposed changes would increase job insecurity and weaken worker protections.
Disruption is expected across public services and infrastructure, including waste collection, public transport and cultural facilities.
For ports and logistics, no port-specific guidance has been issued. However, the situation is expected to affect transport, public services and private-sector operations nationwide. Previous strikes have been associated with disruption to transport and logistics chains.
At this stage, the level of impact is not confirmed and will depend on participation, including adherence among port workers and the application of minimum services.
