Italy introduces phased rail disruptions on Milan–Genoa line for bridge works

Italy faces new traffic adjustments on the Milan–Genoa line as the RTF, the national rail infrastructure manager, schedules maintenance on the bridge over the Po River between San Martino Cava Manara and Bressana Bottarone, running from 3 June to 30 September 2026.

The works focus on reinforcement and structural upgrades to align the bridge with current road and rail load requirements.

The intervention also supports a project to increase line speeds to 180 km/h, aimed at improving connection performance.

Regional and long-distance rail services will be affected across multiple phases during the programme period. Each stage introduces operational changes along the corridor between Pavia and Voghera.

From 3 June to 19 July, one track will be unavailable between Voghera and Pavia, leading to adjustments in services and revised connections.

Between 20 July and 28 August, rail traffic will be suspended entirely on both tracks between Pavia and Voghera. During this period, the commercial offer will be rescheduled.

From 29 August to 30 September, one track closure between Voghera and Pavia will again require a remodulation of connections as works continue.

These phased disruptions form part of the broader maintenance plan to upgrade the infrastructure along the Milan–Genoa route.
