Italian labour unions announced a 24-hour nationwide strike to take place on 26 May. The strike impacts several sectors, including transportation and local government services.
PSA Terminals, operators at the Port of Genoa, informed Kuehne + Nagel that operations could not be granted as normal.
The upcoming labour action comes only a week after similar strikes by airport staff staged on 19 May. According to one of the main labour unions in Italy – the Unione Sindacati di Base (USB) – “Millions of male and female workers suffer the constant worsening of working conditions.”
The demands of the USB and other trade unions include immediate financial support and a set minimum wage of EUR10. The strikes will, however, exclude the flood-hit regions of Emilia-Romagna.
