Update: Delays continue for trucking and rail operations at Hamburg Port

Heavy snowfall over the weekend restricted cargo transport in the north and south of Germany

Update: 06.12.2023

Container transport via rail and trucks continues to face some delays at the Port of Hamburg.

Cargo handling at the port was disrupted yesterday due to heavy snowfall.

Shippers reported that the situation for rail transport has not yet improved.

At the Eurogate, CTA and CTB terminals, trucking slots are booked for the most part of the day and delays are expected as the port handles the backlog from yesterday.

Delays are also expected today for rail transport at the port.

Heavy snowfall in German cities caused the shutdown of air and rail transportation in the southern region. Flights at Munich Airport were suspended over the weekend, and rail services were disrupted in Bavaria.

Kuehne+Nagel sources advised yesterday that transport delays still exist despite intensive work clearing snow in and around Munich. Transport will likely remain restricted in the next few days, impacting delivery and receipt of goods.

The northern regions of Germany have also seen continued snowfall in the past few days, but significantly lower compared to the south. Nevertheless, there are delays in road transport, especially on the streets in and around Hamburg.

At Hamburg Port, slot processing at the Eurogate terminal currently has an average delay of around 6 hours, which means that trucking services could experience prolonged waiting times.

At terminal Burchardkai, heavy snowfall and icy conditions are severely disrupting cargo handling throughout the entire terminal.

While the status of operations is subject to change throughout the day, delays in truck and rail imports and exports are still to be expected in Hamburg at this time.
