A tragic accident took place in Italy’s Port of Salerno yesterday, 14 September, that led to the injury of a chief and the death of a second officer. According to a report by FleetMon, the incident led to the closure of the port and all operations were suspended.
In the aftermath of the accident, the union representing the workers called for a 24-hour strike today, 15 September, at the ports of Salerno and Naples.
According to Kuehne+Nagel sources, import and export operations and transportation to/from the ports could be affected.
