On 25 April at approximately 22:40 local time, a maritime incident occurred on the Long Tau River near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The collision involved the container ship KMTC Surabaya and a dry bulk carrier.
According to Marine Traffic, the collision punctured the stern of the bulk carrier Glengyle, partially sinking it. The impact further caused significant flooding and an oil spill from the bulk carrier.
While the container ship KMTC Surabaya sustained damages, no casualties or damage to cargo were reported.
The Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority took immediate action, reports Splash247. Rescue vessels were dispatched to separate the two interlocked ships, and efforts to contain the oil spill were initiated.
Traffic on the Saigon Vung Tau maritime channel was diverted, and a maritime notice was issued to restrict traffic in the affected area.
As of Saturday, the two vessels remained interlocked, with tugs on the scene monitoring the situation.
Seaexplorer data show that KMTC Surabaya, with a capacity of 2806 TEU, is operated by Korea Marine Transport Co. on the intra-Asia service ANX.
At the time of publishing this article, the ship remains at Ho Chi Minh City port, with 4+ days of delay to its next destination in Hong Kong.
