Rail services in Bangladesh resumed on Wednesday after rail staff decided to withdraw their indefinite strike.

The strike halted passenger and cargo rail services for 26 hours, impacting container movement to and from ports.

Reuters reported a Ministry Railway spokesman saying, "Train services across the country have returned to normal as Bangladesh Railway running staff have withdrawn their strike."

Train services across Bangladesh were halted yesterday as the Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers Association commenced an indefinite strike.

The strike, which began at midnight local time on 27 January 2025, calls for overtime compensation and including overtime allowances in basic salaries.

According to a Maersk advisory, the strike has completely suspended train services, significantly impacting travel and logistics.

The disruption is expected to cause container movement delays and yard congestion, which may, in turn, delay import discharges and impact vessel operations.

Reuters report that the union plans to continue the strike until demands are formally met.
