Container ship SM Portland experienced loss or damage of containers due to extreme winds in the Bering Sea.

The bad weather conditions caused the vessel to tilt severely, impacting 115 containers while en route to Vancouver, Canada.

SM Portland was crossing the Bering Sea after departing from Busan a week prior.

The ship’s owner, South Korean shipping company SM Line, confirmed the incident to Danish media Shipping Watch.

Seaexplorer data show that the ship, which has a 4,228 TEU capacity, is currently sailing to Vancouver on the Transpacific service PNS.

According to the media, the vessel will undergo examination by Canadian authorities and the Coast Guard before it can dock in Vancouver.
