Update: Logistics and transport union workers announce a 24-hour strike in Italy

The strike will take place on 30 April, a day before International Workers' Day

Italian logistics and transport union COBAS announced its workers will hold a 24-hour national strike in Italy on 30 April.


The strike will fall between two public holidays, on 25 April and 1 May. Considering this, delays to the transport of cargo can be expected and should be planned for.


This latest announcement follows a series of strikes sparked by failed contract renewal negotiations.

According to a new update, the 24-hour strikes will now impact the ports of La Spezia, Trieste, Venezia, and Genoa Port.


The full strikes started today, 4 April, and will also occur Friday, 5 April. PSA Genoa Prà Terminal will strike for two hours per shift on Friday.


In addition, PSA Genoa Prà and PSA Genoa Sech Terminals will strike during the first shift on Thursday, 11 April.


The strikes on Thursday will further impact transportation, Logistics, Freight Forwarding and Shipping Agencies.

More details have been revealed concerning the strikes that will take place in Italy this week.


In addition to disruption in port operations, traffic will be limited on 2 April from 9:00 to 14:00 local time for vehicles with over 7.4 tonnes.


At ports, the strike started today, 2 April, at PSA Genoa Prà Terminal. Operations will be halted at the port for two hours - one hour at the beginning and the end of each shift - and will affect overall operations.

Labour unions in Italy called for multiple strikes at the country's ports after negotiations failed to reach a labour agreement for workers.


The workers' contracts have expired last year.


Work stoppages from two to 24 hours are planned from 3 to 5 April.


While the exact times of the strikes remain unknown, workers plan to stage either two-hour stoppages per shift or a full 24-hour strike during that specified period.


Genoa Port will witness a 24-hour strike on 5 April.
