Update: 22.05.2024

Kuehne+Nagel sources reveal that access to the Port of Napoli was restored yesterday afternoon after several days of disruption.

The port authority worked at night to recover operations and clear out the backlog created by the demonstrations.

The situation at the port is expected to return to normal in the next two days.

Dozens of trucks participated in a spontaneous demonstration this week at the gates of Naples Port, causing congestion and hours of delays.

According to local news, the truckers complained about the slowdown in vessel handling operations at the port, forcing them to wait for hours to pick up or deliver containers.

Attilio Musella, regional secretary of the Fita-Cna Campania union, said drivers have been working with reduced operations for days.

He added, "Drivers are often forced to queue for four or five hours to complete their work after having made long journeys from Lazio or Puglia."

The union and port managers met on Thursday, 16 May, to discuss the situation. However, talks failed to reach a resolution.

After the meeting, Musella announced that the demonstrations would continue and called for another urgent meeting to resolve the situation.

Musella threatened that the strike “will move to the heart of Naples, paralyzing the entire city" if the meeting is not held by the beginning of next week.

"We intend to move trucks into the centre to raise public awareness of our situation."
