Wilhelmshaven Port goes on strike today, 27 June

Container handling operations at the port will be halted for 24 hours

German labour union ver.di rejected the latest Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZdS) offer and called for a strike today, 27 June.

The union announced the strike only a day earlier, asking workers at the Wilhelmshaven Container Terminal (CTW) to hold warning strikes during the first and second shifts "to increase pressure on employers before the fourth round of negotiations."

Handling operations at the port will be impacted throughout the day, including container deliveries and pick-up.

One of the main issues the union rejects is a proposed increase of 2.9% in hourly wages.

In a statement, ver.di reiterated its demand for an increase of three euros as of 1 June.

"It is important that the lower wage groups, in particular, are given financial relief through the wage increases. Inflation in recent years has hit them particularly hard," writes the union.
