Rail operations in Italy face multiple route interruptions and schedule constraints

Kuehne+Nagel reports that a series of railway works and temporary line closures across Italy is set to affect services over the coming weeks.

 

The disruptions cover several regions and require changes to routing, train availability and handling conditions.

 

Following is a description of possible rail interruptions and ports affected.

 

Ongoing until 28 Feb 2026

Ports impacted: Gioia Tauro

Only one operational track at San Ferdinando station available, causing possible delays and disruptions. Planned switch to three tracks at the end of February 2026 is no longer confirmed.

 

From 14 Jan 2026 to 23 Jan 2026 and from 26 Jan 2026 to 28 Feb 2026

Ports impacted: Gioia Tauro

Line interruption impacts S. Vito Lanciano – S. Severo – Termoli in the first phase and Bari Parco Nord – Gioia del Colle in the second phase. Trains on the Bologna–Gioia Tauro line will be rerouted via Prato. HC containers will be allowed only on low‑floor wagons.

 

10 Feb 2026 – 12 Feb 2026

Location impacted: NOLA Interporto, Naples

Napoli–Bari line interruption are expected. All trains will be cancelled on 10 and 11 February; services may resume from 12:00 on 12 February.

 

16 Feb 2026 – 29 Mar 2026

Ports impacted: La Spezia, Genoa

Genova Brignole interruption expected and trains could be rerouted via Pontremoli with reduced capacity. The circulation via Pontremoli will be suspended on 21 Feb and 21 Mar.
