Port strikes planned on 8 April in France are cancelled

The union and the government are set to work towards a solution to maintain uninterrupted operations at the ports

The strikes planned for the 8th of April at France's ports have been cancelled.


According to a new communication, the Maritime Union of French Ports has commenced talks with the government to find a rapid solution to dockworkers' issues at ports.


The union asserted in a letter to officials that finding a solution to this issue is essential to maintaining the ports' economic activity for the country.

France's national port staff and dockers' union has called for a new strike at the country's ports.


The strike is planned for 24 hours on Monday, 8 April, and will impact all port operations.

The strikes impacting ports nationwide in France have been cancelled.


Kuehne+Nagel sources confirm that the 24-hour strikes planned for today, 22 February and Tuesday, 27 February, will no longer take place.

The French National Federation Ports & Docks have issued a notice of 24-hour strikes on 16, 22 and 27 February for port staff across all ports in France.


This industrial action is part of a nationwide campaign to denounce the government's pension reform policies.


In addition to the strikes, the union called on workers to stop exceptional shifts and overtime. As a result, port operations are likely to be disrupted, adding to the delays caused by last week's strikes.


According to local sources, the upcoming strikes are planned as follows:


• A 24-hour work stoppage on Friday, 16 February

• A 24-hour work stoppage on Thursday, 22 February

• A 24-hour work stoppage on Tuesday, 27 February, including a "dead ports" operation.

The French National Federation of Ports and Docks (FNPD) called for three strikes in February as pension issues remain unresolved despite extensive demonstrations.


In addition to the planned action, union members will continue to suspend overtime and extra shifts. The action will impact all ports in France, including the country's largest container port, Le Havre.


According to Kuehne+Nagel sources, the strikes are planned over three separate days as follows:


Monday, 5 February

A 4-hour work stoppage is planned between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.


Wednesday, 7 February

Operations will be suspended for 24 hours.


Friday, 9 February

A 4-hour work stoppage is planned between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.


This industrial action comes as part of a series of strikes that started in September last year. The latest was held in November 2023, impacting ports Le Havre, Marseille-Fos and Rouen.
