Farmers in northern Greece have resumed blocking border crossings this week after declining a proposed meeting with the prime minister to discuss their demands.
The protests began in November to denounce governmental policies, rising production costs, and delayed payments.
This month, the country faced renewed blockades affecting Promachonas and Evzoni on the Bulgarian border, as well as the Niki checkpoint toward North Macedonia, disrupting truck and private vehicle movements.
According to local news, additional closures are planned across Western Macedonia. Farmers intend to carry out further blockades of customs offices on the borders with Bulgaria and North Macedonia, citing a minimum duration of 24 hours.
The situation at the Bulgaria–Greece border is reportedly strained as heavy trucks are barred from passing through Kulata and Ilinden, while the Kapitan Petko Voivoda crossing is entirely closed.
Restrictions have also been introduced at Promahon, where heavy vehicles are prohibited in both directions. Similarly, the Ilinden–Exohi route is limiting the passage of both trucks and light vehicles.
Container movement by truck is likely to face delays as the situation remains volatile. For more information about your shipment, please contact your local Kuehne+Nagel representative.
