The Port Worker’s Union in Greece has declared a 24-hour suspension of duties at the  Piraeus Container Terminal.

According to German carrier Hapag-Lloyd, the strike commenced today, 25 October, at 06:00 local time and will conclude at 06:00 on 26 October, during which vessel and yard operations will be halted.

Terminal gates will be open on Saturday, 26 October, from 07:00 to 15:00 local time. However, on Monday, 28 October, the gates will remain closed due to a national holiday.

Piraeus Port was one of the ports impacted by the Red Sea crisis reroutings. According to the port, it handled 10.1% fewer containers in June, which was part of a 12.9% decline for the first half of the year.

Analysts believe the challenges in international shipping routes through the Red Sea were one of the primary causes of Piraeus's downturn.
