Container vessel Wan Hai 503, which experienced a fire incident in June, has finally found a port of refuge.

Four months after an explosion off the south-west coast of India, the ship was granted approval to berth at Jebel Ali port, UAE.

The Taiwanese carrier Wan Hai announced on its website on 11 September that the ship would arrive at Jebel Ali soon.

"Preliminary assessments indicate that the vessel's stability and structural integrity are secure, with no immediate risks identified," the company stated.

The Wan Hai 503 caught fire following an explosion on 9 June, which resulted in the deaths of four crew members and injuries to six others.

The ship had been at sea since the incident, unable to discharge cargo or secure port access.

According to maritime media TradeWinds, the container inspection and unloading are expected to begin in October.
