New customs and cargo declaration requirements are being introduced in Egypt and Kenya, bringing changes to how shipment information must be submitted before cargo moves.

In Egypt, a new export process is being implemented through the NAFEZA platform. Effective from 17 July 2026, a Unique Consignment Reference (UCR) will be required for all export shipments departing from Egyptian ports.

The measure is intended to support the tracking of cargo throughout the export cycle.

Under the new process, exporters must obtain a 19-digit UCR from NAFEZA before submitting a booking. The reference number must be provided at the time of booking submission, while shipper details, including VAT or tax identification information, must be submitted correctly.

The updated requirements also introduce stricter controls after booking confirmation. UCR amendments and changes to shipper information will not be permitted once a booking has been confirmed.

Invalid or placeholder reference numbers may result in booking cancellation or delays in confirmation. Egyptian Customs and carriers will also maintain an active channel for requests for information, clarifications or other customs-related instructions.

In Kenya, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the implementation of an Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) platform for all containerised cargo destined for Kenyan ports.

The platform will become operational on 03 August 2026 and will apply to containerised import shipments.

Before cargo departs from the origin, exporters or their authorised representatives must obtain an ACD Reference Code through the KRA ACD portal.

For customers, these changes mean that additional customs reference numbers and supporting documentation will be required as part of the export and import processes in Egypt and Kenya.
