The CMA CGM TIGA experienced cargo loss on 20 January 2026 while travelling southbound from Europe to the Levant.
The vessel encountered unexpectedly strong weather conditions off Malta, resulting in the loss of 58 containers at sea. Several other containers on deck were also reported damaged during the incident.
According to the initial assessment, the vessel did not sustain major structural damage and remains fully seaworthy. The early information also confirms that none of the lost containers carried dangerous goods.
Following the incident, CMA CGM has arranged for the vessel to proceed to Malta, where a detailed evaluation of the damage will be conducted.
This assessment will determine the measures required to ensure the safe continuation of the voyage.
Seaexplorer data shows that the 5598-TEU ship is currently at the port of Marsaxlokk and will experience a 3+ delay to its next port of call in El Iskandariya (Alexandria). CMA CGM TIGA is deployed on the carrier's NCLEVANT weekly service.
