Several weeks of civil unrest in Bolivia have led to sweeping blockades along critical freight corridors.
Kuehne+Nagel reports that the unrest is impacting routes running toward Chilean port facilities, notably through Tambo Quemado and Pisiga.
The regular flow of goods entering and leaving the country has been facing congestion and delays at terminals, while operations in multiple locations have been severely disrupted.
Consequently, handling of containers has come under particular strain, with delays hitting both pickup and return processes.
According to media reports, the events are part of a national standstill that has persisted for 40 days, marked by continuous strike action and highway closures.
Official figures show the number of active roadblocks has edged down from 93 to somewhere between 85 and 90, yet movement of goods and people across the country remains severely restricted.
Six of Bolivia's nine administrative regions have been drawn into the unrest, with Cochabamba, La Paz, Oruro, and Potosí bearing the greatest burden.
Media outlet Latina Republic reports that physical damage to road infrastructure is causing challenges to transporting essential goods in the regions.
Effects include shortages of fuel, food, and pharmaceuticals in key cities, including La Paz.
