The German union ver.di has called for a warning strike that affects employees at the HHLA container terminals in the Port of Hamburg.

The strike was announced at short notice and is scheduled for the first shift on Friday, 30 August 2024, from approximately 07:00 to 15:00 local time. As a result, significant disruptions to operations are anticipated.

Eurogate has reported that containers will not be cleared on the railway or roadsides during the strike period. Consequently, no containers will be loaded for import or unloaded for export.

The terminals affected by the strike include the CTB, CTA, and CTT. The strike impacts the early shift and employees with flexitime arrangements, leading to expected handling delays and disruptions throughout the network.

This warning strike comes against the backdrop of HHLA’s ongoing efforts to enhance terminal efficiency, highlighting the tensions between management and labour unions during periods of significant organizational change.
