13 May 2025 (Lloyd's List) - A CMA CGM-owned containership collided with the quayside in Hamburg and subsequently damaged a gantry crane.
The incident involved 2023-built, Malta-flagged, 2000-teu CMA CGM Ermitage (IMO: 9961295), which was docking at Hamburg after leaving Bremerhaven on May 10.
The police said the cause for the collision was unknown, but some media reports suggest the boxship may have been trying to avoid a small motor craft while docking at the terminal.
A spokesperson for terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG said nobody was injured in the incident and that the damage to the quay and gantry crane was still being assessed by the “relevant experts”.
Police said the “responsible authorities” ordered a temporary ban on CMA CGM Ermitage leaving the port. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
CMA CGM was approached for comment.
