US tariff adjustment targets global vehicle import

New duties to affect global truck and bus imports to the US from 1 November 2025

In a new tariff development, President Donald Trump has issued a proclamation introducing new import duties on a range of commercial vehicles.

The measure, published on 17 October 2025, will take effect from 1 November 2025 and is expected to impact the transport of vehicles and vehicle parts from across the globe.

The revised structure imposes a 25% tariff on imports of medium and heavy-duty trucks, as well as associated parts.

Additionally, a 10% duty will be levied on buses, encompassing school buses, transit models, and motor coaches.

Under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the treatment of truck imports varies. Vehicles not qualifying for USMCA benefits will be taxed in full at the 25% rate.

In contrast, USMCA-eligible trucks will see the tariff applied solely to the portion of the vehicle's value derived from non-US content.
