Update: Port strikes in France cancelled

The dockworkers' union suspended the latest series of strikes after French president's decicion to dissolve the parliament and call for new elections

Update: 14.06.2024

The port strikes planned this month have been cancelled following the announcement of parliamentary elections in France.

The dissolution of parliament means that the unions no longer have a mediator to negotiate their demands. As a result, the union representing port workers decided to suspend the strikes until September.

Update: 11.06.2024

In addition to the strikes announced earlier, stevedores at all French ports decided to carry out full-day strikes on 13, 21 and 25 June.

According to local news, the new strikes that started in May have significantly impacted port operations and had direct consequences for road transport.

French media Actu Transport Logistique reports that transport organisations are urgently appealing to public authorities to mitigate the impact of the industrial action.

According to the Union of Transport and Logistics Companies of France, stevedores at ports will start a new series of strikes on multiple days in May and June.

The National Federation of Ports and Docks (FNPD CGT) announced that operations would halt at all ports in France for a period of four hours between 10:00 and 16:00 local time on the following days:

  • May 2024: 21, 23, 27, 29 and 31
  • June 2024: 4, 6, 10, 12, 14, 18, 20, 24, 26 and 28

Port workers engaged in several strikes this year to denounce unresolved pension reform and labour conditions issues.

The union called for new strikes as the latest negotiations with the government were not put into action.
