Emergency measures and strikes exacerbate delays and operational challenges at key ports

Operations at the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam continue to face disruptions from last week.

In Antwerp, the DP World Antwerp Gateway 1700 is facing severe yard congestion, prompting the implementation of emergency measures.

Hapag-Lloyd reported that stacking capacity is fully utilized, and export delivery truck slots are reduced to 30% to prioritize the removal of import containers.

As was the case last week, berth priorities are being modified to expedite the clearance of export and transhipment containers.

Additionally, the terminal will reject additional import or transhipment cargo from nearby ports due to port call changes.

In Rotterdam, the Hutchison Port Delta 2 terminal faces a backlog of containers after a strike slowed down operations last week. The labour action also impacted vessel schedules.

Furthermore, a strike began at the rail terminal Hutchison Ports in Venlo, Netherlands. The Union FNV has announced a strike due to labour agreement negotiations.

Hutchison Ports announced that operational interruptions are anticipated, and they could vary from slowdowns to a full strike.
