As of late 14 August, Typhoon Ampil is tracking north-northeastward across the western Pacific Ocean, posing a significant threat to Japan.
According to Crisis24, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned about heavy rainfall, possible landslides, strong winds, lightning, and large waves.
The storm will impact the Ogasawara, Izu, Kanto, and Tohoku regions.
As a result, operations at the ports of Tokyo, Yokohama, Chiba, Sendai and Hachinohe are likely to be impacted.
Winds gusting up to 216 kph (134 mph) are forecasted in the Izu Islands and Kanto region. Rainfall totals could reach 30 cm (12 inches) in Kanto-Koshin and 12 cm (5 inches) in Tohoku.
State authorities and airlines have already cancelled some flights and train traffic in preparation for the storm.
