Turkey suspends all trade transactions with Israel

Citing the "worsening humanitarian tragedy" in Gaza as its motive, the ministry halted export and import transactions for all products with Israel

The Turkish Ministry of Trade announced suspending all trade relations with Israel last week as the Israel-Gaza conflict enters its seventh month.

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said, "Turkey has suspended all export and import with Israel until a permanent ceasefire is established and the aid into Gaza is allowed without any interruption," reports the BBC.

The ministry highlighted that the new restriction halts export and import transactions for all products in light of the worsening humanitarian conditions.

"Turkey will strictly and decisively implement these new measures until the Israeli Government allows an uninterrupted and sufficient flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza."

The new announcement comes after a recent export ban on a list of products that mainly impacted the construction field.

In addition to all import and export cargo between the two countries, Danish carrier Maersk said the suspension will also impact:

  • all import cargo to Turkey, with transhipment at Israel
  • all Israel-related third-country cargo, with transhipment in Turkey
  • all empty containers loaded from Israel or to be loaded for Israel
