Turkey bans exports of 54 items to Israel

The restrictions, which will remain until Isreal implements a ceasefire in Gaza, mainly impact exports essential to construction work

Earlier this month, the Turkish government imposed restrictions on exports to Israel after it refused Turkey's request to airdrop aid over Gaza.

The Turkish Ministry of Trade announced that it will cease exporting 54 items to Israel until there is a ceasefire.

The items include iron and steel products, jet fuel, construction equipment, machines, cement, granites, chemicals, pesticides, and bricks. The full list of items can be found in this file.

Impact of export restrictions

Analysts believe the trade restrictions, which will primarily impact goods essential to builders, will compel importers to explore alternative suppliers from other nations.

In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministery said it was working on an "extended list of additional products that Israel will prevent Turkey from exporting," reports the Times of Israel.

The newspaper also reveals that the government announced its intention to request pro-Israel countries and organizations to reduce investments in Turkey and block the import of Turkish products.

Current situation for container shipping

Meanwhile, containerised trade to and from Israel remains largely unaffected amidst the ongoing conflict in the region.

A recent announcement by Danish carrier Maersk confirms that operations are functioning normally without disruption.

It is important to highlight that the new restrictions remain limited at the moment and do not signal a general ban on exports to Israel. In addition, these restrictions involve the trade relations between Turkey and Israel only.
