A passenger train derailed in Cumbria, UK, resulting in the closure of both directions of the West Coast Main Line.
The incident occurred early on Monday, 3 November, on the route from Glasgow Central to London Euston.
Following the accident, both passenger and freight services were halted, affecting intermodal and bulk loads between Scotland and England.
According to World Cargo, the disruption was initially anticipated to last throughout Monday but was later revised to extend for the entire week.
Interruptions will affect both the East and West Coast Main Lines.
The West Coast line is described as the busiest mixed-use railway line in the UK, carrying significant passenger and freight traffic between major cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow.
Disruption on this line typically impacts tens of thousands of journeys and major north–south rail freight flows.
The line is also scheduled for closure early next year for a bridge replacement.
