Spain’s workers' union sets 8 June start for indefinite strike

Union seeks written update by 24 May on early retirement talks, warning of nationwide disruption to freight and bus services

Spain’s workers' union sets 8 June start for indefinite strike

Starting 8 June, Spain may see an indefinite nationwide stoppage by truck and bus drivers after the UGT union set out plans for a general strike.

UGT, the General Union of Workers in Spain, said the action will proceed unless it receives clear written information from the government on early retirement arrangements for professional drivers.

The union has said the strike will be formally confirmed on Sunday, 24 May 2026, if the requested update on negotiations is not provided by then.

If the strike goes ahead, it could disrupt passenger transport and supply deliveries across Spain, with potential effects on freight transport.

According to local reports, no other unions have formally joined the strike call.
