Strikes in Argentina halt cargo and passenger rail today

The strikes are for 24-hours today, 21 February, prompted by failed wage negotiations

Railway workers, members of the La Fraternidad Union, started a 24-hour nationwide strike in Argentina today, 21 February.

This industrial action comes from failed negotiations regarding salary enhancements and better working conditions.

Passenger and cargo trains are expected to cease operations across the country during the strike, which commenced at 00:01 and is planned to end at 23:59 (ART).

Speaking to the media, Trade unionist Omar Maturano, leader of the La Fraternidad Union of train conductors, said, "We ratified our measures after a meeting in which we did not receive offers nor were our demands received."

With the exception of some long-distance services, all operations are likely to halt, added Maturano.
