The districts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar in India are forecast to receive extremely heavy rain starting 19 August and lasting until 21 August.
India's Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert for these districts, attributing the extreme weather to cyclonic circulations and a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Kuehne+Nagel reports that vessel movements at the Nhava Sheva Port terminals have been suspended today, 19 August, due to severe rainfall, strong winds, and poor visibility.
In addition, the port is witnessing vessel berthing delays and irregular vessel schedules due to waterlogging, which is impacting road access to the port and Container Freight Station (CFS) operations.
Empty container pick-up delays of 8–10 hours are reported across all yards, while transit delays of 6–8 hours are noted across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Laden container gate-ins are delayed due to long queues at port terminals, and buffer yards are nearing capacity due to vessel delays.
Bad weather has also hindered rail and road transport.
Heavy rain submerged key railway tracks and roads, affecting cargo and passenger movement.
