Maharashtra truckers, India, begin indefinite strike

The ongoing labour dispute is expected to delay shipments and essential supplies across the region

by Manal Barakat, SeaNewsEditor

A statewide strike by truck drivers commenced in Maharashtra on 2 July, following labour disputes with the traffic authorities.

According to local media, the strike will involve over 200,000 trucks and other goods-carrying vehicles in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

The vehicles will go off the roads indefinitely as no end date to the strike was named.

Due to the labour action, the movement of goods, including essential commodities, will face probable delays and interruptions to and from Maharashtra.

Updates on the strike will follow as soon as they become available.
