On the evening of 25 December, the Antwerp Port Authority received a bomb threat in relation to the MSC Bhavya V. The threat claimed the presence of a bomb inside a container which would detonate once the ship is in port.
The vessel was due to arrive in Antwerp yesterday but was held offshore for investigation. According to the schedule, the vessel should dock later today, however there no official confirmation of this as yet.
According to Kuhne+Nagel's seaexplorer, MSC Bhavya V is currently still at anchor.
This is the second bomb threat incident targeting MSC vessels. In December last year, the MSC Lorena was forced to reverse course in the River Scheldt after receiving a similar threat. While it turned out to be false, about 2.4 tonnes of cocaine were found on the ship. Two men were arrested in connection with the threat, which some reports suggest was used to delay the ship in a smuggler dispute.
