PSA Antwerp has announced significant changes to its operations due to severe congestion at its terminals.
Until further notice, the export delivery window will be reduced from seven days to five days. This decision aims to alleviate the current high yard density and ensure the terminal's continued functionality.
Container carrier OOCL has relayed this crucial update, highlighting that PSA will also reduce the cargo opening time to five calendar days.
The new process involves PSA communicating the Cargo Opening Time (COT) on the Port of Antwerp ETA Terminal website eight days before the vessel's ETA.
The yard will open five days before the vessel's ETA, maintaining a three-day gap between the communication and the actual opening.
Earlier this year, DP World also implemented measures to manage high yard density at its terminals.
On 15 January 2025, DP World reduced the cargo opening time for dry containers to six calendar days to prevent further congestion.
These measures align with existing Yard Opening Time rules at other major terminals in Antwerp, such as Deurganck Terminal and MPET, which have been in place for several months.
The recent changes at PSA, Quay 913 and Quay 869, reflect a broader effort to manage terminal congestion effectively.
