Cargo transport organisations in Mexico began an indefinite national strike on 26 October 2026, with demonstrations planned across major roads and highways in several parts of the country.
The National Chamber of Cargo Motor Transport (CANACAR), AMOTAC and other transport organisations said the mobilisation would begin at 08:00 local time.
Heavy cargo vehicles are expected to be positioned along the shoulders of some of Mexico’s busiest highways.
The action centres on demands for authorities to respond to robberies, extortion, violence and assaults on federal roads.
Organisers have called for the demonstrations to remain peaceful and do not plan complete road closures.
Mobilisations are planned in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Zacatecas, Jalisco, Michoacán, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas, including Nuevo Laredo.
The presence of heavy vehicles is nevertheless expected to reduce available road capacity and affect traffic.
The strike has been declared for an indefinite period, with transport organisations suspending activities on the country’s main highways.
Local media did not specify potentially impacted ports at this point. However, container traffic may experience limitations and delays during the mobilisation.
