Hapag-Lloyd announced that the group’s transport volumes increased in the first half of 2025.
The German group concluded the first half of 2025 with a Group EBITDA of USD 1.9 billion (EUR 1.8 billion), while EBIT decreased to USD 0.7 billion (EUR 0.6 billion). Meanwhile, profits fell to USD 0.8 billion (EUR 0.7 billion).
The carrier highlighted that the changes in US trade policies led to demand volatility, and the tense security situation in the Red Sea further impacted operations.
The group's revenues in its Liner Shipping segment increased to USD 10.4 billion (EUR 9.5 billion) in the first half of 2025, primarily due to an 11% rise in transport volumes to 6.7 million TEU.
This increase is attributed to growth in the East-West trades, says Hapag-Lloyd.
However, the German liner lowered its financial expectations for 2025. The company now anticipates an EBITDA in the range of EUR 2.5-3.4 billion, compared to the previous range of EUR 2.4-3.9 billion.
This adjustment contrasts with its alliance partner Maersk, which recently raised its expectations for this year's operating profit by half a billion dollars.
