Port operator Eurogate, which runs container terminals in all of Germany's ports, announced that it had a strong first half of the year, marked by increased freight volumes.

The operator, which anticipates robust growth in the remainder of the year, attributed this performance to the Gemini Cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk.

According to the financial statements issued by Eurogate, the company's results exceeded expectations during this period.

Management highlighted that the introduction of the Gemini Cooperation was a key factor in the notable rise in throughput, particularly at the Wilhelmshaven container terminal.

“The successful launch of the Gemini Cooperation led to a significant increase in throughput in the first half of this year, particularly at the Wilhelmshaven container terminal,” reads the statement.

Across all its German locations, container throughput increased to 4.2 million TEU, up from 3.5 million TEU in the same period of 2024.

In January 2025, it was reported that the ports of Wilhelmshaven and Bremerhaven were preparing for higher cargo volumes in anticipation of the Gemini Cooperation’s launch in February.

In anticipation of growth, Eurogate has invested over EUR 100 million in the port of Wilhelmshaven over the past two years.

Other key European terminals operated by the company are located in the ports of La Spezia, Italy, and Tangier, Morocco.
