Hamburg port operations disrupted by protests

Rail and road access to key terminals halted as demonstrations force police intervention

by Manal Barakat, SeaNewsEditor

This morning, on Friday, 7 November, a group of demonstrators occupied the rail tracks, leading to the suspension of rail traffic in Hamburg-Waltershof and directly affecting the Eurogate (EKOM), Burchardkai, and HCCR terminals of Hamburg Port.

Additionally, road access was severely impacted as a result of the demonstration, including truck access to Burchardkai, HCCR and Eurogate (EKOM).

Rail services and terminal access are now available, but with restrictions and delays.

Meanwhile, the CTB terminal imposed a police-ordered closure of all inbound and outbound truck movements. At the time of writing this article, vehicles on-site are still prohibited from leaving the premises.

Consequently, scheduled handling of containers cannot proceed as planned. Delays, cancellations and missed positioning appointments are anticipated.

According to discussions with the Hamburg Port Authority, the disruption is expected to continue, with an official statement expected later today.
