Local media reported a fire at approximately 09:50 am local time at the Hamburg-Altenwerder container terminal.

 

The German newspaper Die Zeit writes that the fire broke out at Ballinkai, located on the southern bank of the Elbe.

 

The incident occurred during the dismantling of a container crane, also referred to as a container bridge, which is a type of crane used for transferring containers between vessels and the quay.

 

Emergency services responded promptly, with around 30 firefighters and the fire department’s largest vessel involved.

 

According to the media, initial firefighting efforts were conducted from the water, after which the response shifted to the landside as operations progressed through midday.

 

As of the latest update, the situation was ongoing, and it remained unclear when the firefighting operations would conclude.
