Storm-hit cruise ship strikes MSC containership in Bremerhaven

A TUI Cruises vessel collided with the berthed MSC Victorine at Bremerhaven on 25 October, damaging both ships as strong winds affected the German port.

At around 17:30, during its departure manoeuvre, the cruise ship struck MSC Victorine, which was alongside at the container terminal.

The 16,520-TEU MSC Victorine suffered a hull tear of approximately 10 metres above the waterline.

Containers and deck structures were also reported damaged, although Bremen port authorities confirmed that no water entered the vessel.

The cruise ship sustained damage to several lifeboats and their launching equipment. Two tugs assisting the manoeuvre were also reportedly damaged.

No injuries were reported among the crews or passengers.

There were conflicting accounts over the number of containerships involved.

Bremen police said two vessels had been struck, while TUI Cruises maintained that the collision involved only one.

MSC Anne F was berthed nearby, but its involvement remains unclear.

According to seaexplorer data, MSC Victorine is deployed on MSC's service SWAN, with the next port of call planned in Felixstowe, United Kingdom.
