On July 8, 2025, Guatemala experienced a series of over 150 seismic events, including a primary earthquake of magnitude 5.2 and subsequent aftershocks ranging from 3.0 to 5.7.
The tremors impacted the Sacatepéquez, Escuintla, and Guatemala states, resulting in landslides, structural damage, and the tragic loss of four lives.
Despite the intensity of the seismic activity, port operations across Guatemala remain fully functional.
The affected roadways are not primary routes to the ports, ensuring that sea freight logistics have not been directly impacted.
Trucking services continue to operate, albeit with the usual delays that have characterised the Guatemalan market in recent weeks and months due to ongoing challenges in truck availability. These delays are not earthquake-related but reflect broader logistical constraints in the region.
