On 25 September, port workers at Dakar Port, Senegal, started an indefinite strike to protest against a number of issues, including the removal of excessive surcharge fees and the decongestion of the port.
According to a news report by risk management agency Crisis24, the work stoppage is expected to cause service disruptions at the port facility, including maritime, freight, and customs activities. The strikes are also likely to be combined with protests in the area.
Freight carriers have warned that a halt to the operations at the port will lead to an increase in the costs of goods in the country.
Additionally, truck drivers last week threatened to stage a strike in the country if employers do not take active steps to revise their contracts. According to local news, the truckers have been suffering "poor working and living conditions."
