DP World Australia detected a cyber attack against its systems on Friday, 10 November. As a result, all of the operator's terminals had to be closed for landslide operations and truck arrival zones were cancelled.
An announcement published by Container Transport Alliance Australia mentioned that the country's Federal Home Affairs Minister, Clare O'Neil, was working with DP World to provide technical advice and assistance.
A state official said in a social media post that the government was responding to a "nationally significant cyber incident impacting a number of maritime port facilities".
While operational interruptions were expected to remain for several days, DP World notified stakeholders today that it partially restored their system, enabling operations to resume at the ports of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle with limited capacity.
According to Kuehne+Nagel sources, restoring DP World's system is expected to take several days. DP World has also advised transport providers to refrain from delivering export containers until further notice to clear the backlog as soon as possible.
While import shippers can conduct business as usual, exports are currently impacted as no export drop-offs are available.
With the industrial action that has been taking place since early October at DP World terminals, retrieving and delivering containers will likely witness delays over the coming weeks.
Please do not hesitate to contact your local Kuehne+Nagel representative if you have any questions about the above matter.
