Update: 07.12.2023
Kuehne+Nagel sources reveal that cyclone Michaung caused heavy floods in Chennai and the surrounding areas.
Port terminals are still flooded, impacting trailer transportation, laden container gate-in, empty container pickups from yards, and off-dock movements.
However, the latest update shows that Michaung has weakened into a deep depression over central coastal Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, it is further forecast to lose intensity in the next few days.
Chennai Port resumed berthing operations of vessels stranded at outer anchorage due to the storm.
Vessel berthing and unloading of export containers has also resumed at the ports of Kakinada and Krishnapatnam. Nevertheless, port areas are still flooded with water and truck movement at the terminals remains slow.
The latest operational by Hapag-Lloyd reports that power shortages at Kattupali Port have shut down the operating systems. As a result, all container operations are currently suspended.

The Indian government declared the 4th and 5th of December public holidays in Chennai, among other regions, after a major cyclone hit the city and its neighbouring districts.
Local news reported that cyclone Michaung intensified into a severe cyclonic storm today, bringing heavy rainfall and severe floods to the area.
Airport departures and arrivals have been suspended at Chennai airport due to the storm. Operations at Chennai Port container terminals are also likely to be affected by severe weather and the two-day holiday.
Weather forecasts from the region currently expect the rainfall to decrease in Chennai but could remain in many places throughout the state until Wednesday.
