Crane incident causes loss of containers at Yantian Port

Containers collapsed from boxship MSC Riona as a result of the incident

On 16 September, a ship-to-shore crane collapsed on top of a container ship at Yantian Port, China.


According to news reports, the afflicted ship was the MSC Riona, which was anchored at the port when the crane struck.


The incident caused the suspension of operations at the port's berth 2.


The incident caused no injuries; however, several containers collapsed into the water.


Seaexplorer data shows that MSC Riona is a 1728-TEU vessel deployed on MSC's Intra-Asia service, the Lang Co Express.
