After a US order issued on 1 May, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd have suspended all bookings to and from Cuba until further notice.
Both carriers confirmed the decision separately, citing the executive order as the basis for halting new business.
Hapag-Lloyd stated it has temporarily stopped accepting bookings, indicating that the suspension is linked to compliance risks associated with the order.
Meanwhile, CMA CGM said, “Following the U.S. Executive Order issued on May 1, CMA CGM has decided to suspend its bookings to or from Cuba until further notice.”
The measure could affect up to 60% of Cuba’s shipping traffic by volume, according to Reuters.
These sources also stated that cargo flows from China are expected to be most affected, with Northern Europe and the Mediterranean routes also facing significant disruption, while all global shipping to Cuba would be impacted.
