
Bosphorus closed after ship grounding
Bulk carrier carrying grains from Ukraine runs aground 16 January
During the early hours of today, a bulk carrier carrying grain ran aground in the Bosphorus Strait, blocking traffic for other ships.
The bulk carrier was on its way from Ukraine to Istanbul when the incident occurred off Sariyer, the northernmost district of Istanbul. Operations to re-float the ship have not been successful yet, and the strait remains closed.
According to Reuters, no damage was reported to the vessel. Several tugs were sent to provide assistance to the ship, reported local authorities.
