Road blockades in Bolivia are causing significant disruption across the country.

Since Monday, 21 October, several key roads have been subject to indefinite blockades, preventing the delivery of containers to Santa Cruz.

This has led to delivery delays of between two and four days, and the overall impact remains uncertain.

The blockades, orchestrated by supporters of former President Evo Morales, are impacting major cities, including La Paz, El Alto, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, home to over 3.9 million people.

Local news reported widespread fuel shortages, with long queues at petrol stations.

The economic consequences are severe, with the Ministry of Economy estimating daily losses of over USD50 million.

Last week, more blockades were reported on the borders between Chile and Bolivia. A blockade was carried out 60 kilometres from Arica, Chile, impacting the transportation of essential goods in the region.
